You're completely right! People sometimes miss the point - you must choose what's right for you, there's no objective way of deciding which one is better. Each approach has lots of strengths and weaknesses. But from a cost perspective, if you're a startup that plans on mostly displaying data to the user and performing basic CRUD operations in a mobile app, then you shouldn't bother with the downsides of cross-platform.
